Social Media Survey of German SAP Partners: Use? yes – Strategy? no

Heidelberg - social media use for German midsize SAP partners, both privately and professionally, has become more regular and frequent. Facebook, Xing and Co. are the most leveraged social media channels among partners despite the fact that the majority of SAP Partners who participated in the survey have no social media strategy or corporate guidelines. Only a third of partners integrate their social media activities with their overall corporate communication strategy.

Most participants in the survey consider the biggest advantage of using social media is the “free” marketing of products and information. Other advantages include the more direct communication opportunities and the broader reach of social media channels to target audiences. The disadvantages viewed are the lack of data security as well as the loss of control over information shared.

The bottom line for using social media communication: almost all of the SAP Partners surveyed believe that their activities online help to raise the external awareness of their companies. Further reasons include taking advantage of and finding new business opportunities, customers and recruiting new talent.

Almost all of the SAP partners surveyed already use social media in one way or the other. 61% of those surveyed link social media channels to their homepage. Despite the widespread use of social media, few organizations have a well-developed strategy and less than half have an individual responsible for social media activities, let alone corporate social media guidelines (14% of those surveyed). Only a third actively integrate the content of their social media channels across the board and 10% leverage a social media newsroom.
